With those software name changes, the ‘26 software updates will capitalize on a new system design language centered around something called Liquid Glass.

This is a design cue that makes menus, buttons, text bubbles, and essentially all functioning system notifications to have a layer of transparency behind them. Liquid Glass opens up the OS interfaces by removing an air of restriction through the departure of closed pop-up boxes. Being able to somewhat see through those boxes will supposedly make the experience feel more open and seamless during navigation of the phone’s interfaces.

The ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X will launch in Q4 2025 and will feature a redesigned Ally structure to incorporate deeper contoured grips than the original ROG Ally. The two devices will also run a new software experience based on Microsoft's Xbox frontend design that will make the device feel as if it were operating as an Xbox.  

The two handhelds will have the same display specs with a 7 inch, 1920x1080p display that refreshes at up to 120 Hz.

Where the specs differentiate is with the processor as the base Ally uses an AMD Ryzen Z2A CPU with 16 GB of ram and 512 GB of storage.

The Ally X will get a boost to an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme CPU with 24 GB of ram and ` TB of storage. The higher-end model will also get a slightly bigger battery and one of it’s USB ports bumped up to USB4 from USB 3.2.

While these will innately be Xbox featured, the consoles will also allow for libraries from other game stores that work on Windows like Steam. No pricing yet, but the Xbox Ally devices are shaping up to be potential rivals to the popular Steam Deck.

Another EV truck will join the growing market in Q4 2026 as the Amazon-backed American automotive company, Slate has just officially launched their website and has begun taking deposits from potential buyers.

Marketed as a lego-styled car where you can literally buy a barebones model with no infotainment system, no power windows, and no audio system, only to modify and build the unit up to however you want to customize it with different configurations of add-ons, the Slate EV truck can be had for as little as $20,000 after US tax incentives.

The puns write themselves as this is as blank of a slate as we’ve probably ever seen a carmaker offer a consumer product that actually seems to be quite buyer friendly. The base model will be a 2-seat pickup truck that can also be configured to become a 5-seat SUV.

Slate says they will have over a hundred different types of modification accessories that buyers can add at anytime pre or post purchase.

The powertrain will be a single motor RWD that uses a 52.7 kWh battery or a 84.3 kWh add-on. While the base Slate will have a projected range of 150 miles, there will be a longer-range battery pack that projects to push it to 240 miles.

The cheapest entry into the Google Pixel lineup just got a refresh for 2025 and it looks quite attractive. With a slight redesign compared to recent Pixel models, the brand new Pixel 9A does away with the large rear camera bar. Instead, the cameras are housed in what resembles the pill shaped search bar that Google has been using on Android in recent years.

Fresh off the heels of announcing a refreshed iPad Air and base iPad, Apple has just announced new MacBook Airs with upgraded M4 processors today.

The iPad Air will now run a M3 processor and sell for a starting price of $599. The new MacBook Air gets the current M4 chip with a brand new Sky Blue colorway.

The new 13-inch MacBook Air model starts at $999, while the 15-inch version begins at $1,199.

Not much has changed in terms of design as the new MacBook Airs are mere spec upgrades at best.

Apple also launched a new updated Mac Studio with an interesting distribution of processing power choice. The new base model will come with an M4 Max chip while the higher end model will use an M3 Ultra. Everything else including ports will remain the same as previous generations.

All of these products are available to pre-order from Apple starting this month.

Skype was once synonymous with internet video chatting. For many adults it was also their introduction to professional online meetings. Those days have gone by the wayside long ago as the software has been largely surpassed by others like Zoom and Webex.

Microsoft has announced that they will officially be closing Skype down for good in favor of a free version of Microsoft Teams on May 5th, 2025. Skype users will be able to export their longtime call and chat histories over to Teams to hopefully have a seamless transition to the new platform. 

Other Skype features like Skype Numbers, Dial Pad, and Skype Credits will be phased out immediately.

Microsoft has fully invested in the Teams infrastructure and this was a clear message of resource unification to customers.

There’s a brand new iPhone that is releasing and it will also be the cheapest new iPhone you can currently buy from the company.

The iPhone 16e is essentially a slightly stripped down iPhone 16 in the body of an iPhone 14. With an Apple A18 processor, Apple Intelligence capability, Face ID, the action button that debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro, and a brand new cellular modem designed by Apple, the C1, the iPhone 16e does have a lot to offer for the starting price of $599.

To get the phone a couple hundred dollars lower, Apple removed the iPhone 16’s dynamic island display, reduced the rear cameras down to a single 48 MP sensor, slightly dimmed down the Super Retina XDR OLED display, and removed Magsafe from the aluminum build.

The phone does charge via USB-C like new iPhones do and supports Qi wireless charging. Apple says the 16e should provide users with better battery life than the standard iPhone 16.

Pre-orders begin on February 21, 2025 with 128GB models as the base price point and devices will ship on the 28th.

Well that didn’t last long. Last year there was quite the hoopla hype about a little product that pins onto your shirt that would function as an AI personal assistant.

Humane, The company behind the Ai Pin, struggled with brand image immediately after production of the units began rolling out to consumers. With not much added or useful functionality, fire sales of the Ai Pin began spelling the downfall for the company.

Computing company HP, has announced that it will acquire assets and patents from Humane for a little over $100 million.

The Ai Pin hardware itself is pretty undesirable and HP will not acquire the rights to that. Instead, the remains of the Humane company will officially brick all AI Pins out in the wild on February 28, 2025. After that, whoever does own an AI Pin will no longer be able to connect to the server, rending the product as a paper weight. An AI is useless without the internet and a server that hosts it’s brain after all.

The company will still fully refund any purchases that were made within 90 days of their return window. This isn’t the first time a hyped tech product bit the dust after a short run and it certainly won’t be the last.

Before the dominance of the Apple Watch, there was one little time piece that beat out every other company to become a crowdfunding darling. The Pebble franchise may have been sold to Fitbit (and then to Google) years ago, but former founder of the company, Eric Migicovsky has announced that he is developing a successor to the e-ink watch in the near future.

This is all possible in 2025 due to Google making Pebble OS open source.

Migicovsky apparently has been developing a new Pebble watch for some time now as he has been in touch with Google and the watch will run old apps and watch faces from the Pebble store.
